De Bajo/Coconino
Gato Loco De Bajo : the side of the Gato Loco coin that fuses the great tradition of Cuban popular music from the golden age of Son and Danzon with a New York jazz attitude. Highlighting such composers as Arsenio Rodriguez and Ignacio Pinero, the group maintains a forward-thinking spirit, creating a sonic texture that is rarely if ever heard.
with Stefan Zeniuk (bass Saxophone, bass clarinet), Joe Exley (tuba), Clifton Hyde (acoustic baritone guitar), Ari Folman-Cohen (acoustic bass) and Kevin Garcia (percussion).
Gato Loco Coconino : flipping the coin, the 11-piece psycho-mambo group smashes apart any preconceived notions of a “Salsa” group. To hear this ensemble is to feel what it must have been like in those days when a travelling circus came to your backwater town; suddenly, out of the dust, there is a promise of mystery, pageantry, eroticism and violence. Seduced by the sharp edges, you catch glimpses of impossible places and impossible times
with Stefan Zeniuk (tenor sax, ring-leader), Jackie Coleman, Jesse Selengut (trumpets), Kevin Moehringer, Ric Becker (trombones), Joe Exley (tuba), Clifton Hyde (guitar), Ari Folman-Cohen (bass), Kevin Garcia (drums), Rich Stein (percussion), Greg Stare (congas)
